Overview Gay Club Scene In Ljubljana

Ljubljana was at the forefront of the Eastern European gay rights movement which really got under way in the mid 1980′s. They have an active and dedicated GLBT community which continue to fight for equal rights in Slovenia. Ljubljana may be one of the balkans more open minded city’s but incidents of homophobic abuse and violence are still occurring. Gynavism, Ljubljana Ulica Bataljona 34, 1113 – This steamy sauna is one of the city’s most raunchiest Gay venues. It’s a men only venue with video rooms, jacuzzi’s and a ”Cruising Area” for sexually liberated souls. Beers are affordably priced at about 2.50 Euro’s each. There is smooth background music to get one in the mood for liaising. The number 6 and 8 Buses get to the Sauna. Opening times are Sun-Weds 3 pm till 10 pm and Fri/Sat 3 pm till 11 pm. website – http://www.klub-libero.si/

Green Moon, Ljubljana Poljanska Cesta 3 1000 – This is a new Mayan themed Cocktail bar. It is predominately frequented by gay clientele but is very much hetero friendly. There is an extensive range of fruity cocktails on offer. You may wish to sample something different with a local drink of Soca or Patria. The staff are generally amiable. The drink prices are fairly low with cocktails from 3.50 Euro’s. The admission charge is usually either free or only a couple of Euro’s. Opening times are 7 pm -1 am during the week, Saturday 5 pm till 2 am and Sunday 5 pm till 1 am. K4 Club, Ljubljana Kersnikova 4 – K4 Is a popular hetero hangout for most of the week but transforms into a Gay and Lesbian night haven from 10 pm every Sunday as well as some Saturday’s. There is an eclectic line up of music with everything from Hip Hop, House, Rock and Techno covered by their resident DJ’s. Drink prices are very reasonable and opening times are Tues and Sat from 10 pm and Weds-Sat from 11 pm but is closed on Monday’s. Cover charge is usually about 4 Euro’s.website http://www.Klub4.org

Q Cultural Centre, Ljubljana Masarykova 24 – This elegant centre was opened back in 2009 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Slovenian Gay rights movement. They play host to two club nights Tiffany and Monokel. The club nights serve well priced beer, wine and cocktails. There are regular events from 8 pm on Friday nights. The centre plays host to queer performances from gay musical acts, Drag queens and holds lectures on Gay/Lesbian rights.
